Cruise on the River Baise

River in France

Drift through the beautiful, undiscovered countryside of Southwest France on a well stocked barge, just as travelers in Medieval France once did. WWU professor Amanda Eurich and her husband Laurent Martel will guide you through this breathtaking landscape with their deep knowledge of French history and culture. Sip wine, taste classic French delicacies, and learn about Gascony.

Package includes:

  • Seven nights accommodation and cruise aboard a well-equipped canal barge
  • One night hotel accommodation in Agen
  • Tour of Henry IV, chateau d’Albret in Nerac, guided by Amanda
  • Visit medieval “frontier” bastide towns of Vianne and Larresingle
  • Tour the remains of a Roman villa at Seviac
  • Two on-board wine tasting seminars conducted by Laurent
  • Learn about the local brandy and tour an Armagnac distillery
  • Shop in the local markets with Amanda as translator and guide
  • All dining on-board: continental breakfast, lunch and dinner included
  • Tax deduction – 15% trip cost donated to WWU scholarship fund

Not included:

  • Airfares (Amanda and Laurent will happily assist in planning your trip)
  • Wine costs to be shared communally
  • Any lunch or dinner off the boat (We will likely dine out three times)

Note: These are inter-active tours. All hands participate in skippering the boat, navigating the locks and handling lines. We shop in the local markets and prepare meals together. Great for family gatherings; children over the age of 11 are welcome.

This is the most fun you will ever have at three miles an hour!
