The global spread of the coronavirus is having unprecedented economic and political impacts – the closing of national borders, an all-time record spike in unemployment, and the largest bailout package in U.S. government history. Markets are gyrating daily over concerns about how long the economic restrictions will remain and whether government measures can offset the damage.

The shutdowns are having impacts in our region and beyond. Please join Western’s Hart Hodges, Co-Director of the Center for Economic and Business Research, and Edward Alden, Western’s Ross Visiting Professor and a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, as they unpack the regional and national economic consequences.

Western Insights is an online panel series created in response to COVID-19 to provide the broader region, Western alumni, friends and our students with access to information on current events drawing from the University’s nationally respected experts.  The series is offered entirely online and is open to everyone.
