Thank You for Today: Death Cab for Cutie and ODESZA play WWU Alumni Association Benefit Concert

The WWU Alumni Association, AS Productions, and AEG Presents are presenting Double Major: Death Cab for Cutie and ODESZA on May 18 during WWU Alumni Weekend. These bright stars among our alumni are excited to return to Bellingham for Western. The bands will rock Civic Stadium for this homecoming benefit. Net proceeds will go to the WWU Alumni Association Scholarship fund. The opening acts are supporting artists chong the nomad, Robotaki, and LipStitch.

The WWU Alumni Association and AS Productions offered WWU Alumni Association members and students a special college presale on March 6 at 10 a.m. Ticket sales in previous presales sold out quickly.

For both bands, Double Major is a celebration of the University community and the city of Bellingham. “Bellingham and WWU is where it all began,” says Death Cab for Cutie’s Nick Harmer. “And as we have continued on, it’s been amazing to see and hear so much music continue to flow out of Bellingham too. So when we met ODESZA our bond of being “from Bellingham” was an instant connection.”

ODESZA’s Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight said, “We had some amazing times in that town and at that school. We are super excited to come back and do a special benefit show with our friends and fellow alumni Death Cab for Cutie.”

Both bands teased the announcement on Twitter by posting photos of their student houses, and alumni and fans responded.

Death Cab for Cutie has been touring with Thank You For Today and making high profile TV appearances. Lead singer Ben Gibbard has also been recording an acoustic project The Swift Sessions, named in honor of his friend and colleague singer-songwriter Richard Smith who died last year.  

ODESZA is currently on tour in support of their GRAMMY-nominated album A Moment Apart, having sold out shows at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles and Barclays Center in Brooklyn, in addition to main stage appearances at Coachella, Panorama, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. Later this month, ODESZA will head to Riviera Maya, Mexico for their first ever self-curated all-inclusive festival, SUNDARA, March 13-16.
