Why State Legalization Is Not Enough

Brought to you by Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) Club, the Behavioral Neuroscience Program, and the Psychology Department in partnership with the WWU Alumni Association

States have begun legalizing access to various psychedelic substances, hoping to realize the benefits of therapeutic use to relieve a variety of mental health challenges. However, these substances remain prohibited under federal law. How can federal safe harbor be established? What efforts are underway to establish federal safe harbor?

This discussion will be led by Kathryn Tucker, Director of Advocacy, National Psychedelics Association, founding board member of the Psychedelic Bar Association, counsel to Petitioners in AIMS et al v DEA. Tucker will review the emergence of state legalization and ongoing federal reform efforts.
