Description

The Institute for Energy Studies invites alumni from the Energy Policy and Management and the Energy Science and Technology programs to an informal networking and dinner event (feel free to bring your +1) to share food and stories!

Darrin Magee, the Institute's new director, will host the dinner. He's looking forward to getting to know IES alumni, hear what you're up to, connect you with other alumni, and fill you in on the growth and success of the Institute at the start of its second decade.

Dinner paid for by The Foundation for WWU & Alumni and the Institute for Energy Studies.

Please join us!

Darrin Magee is a white male with brown hair. He is smiling and wears a blue button up shirt. A large solar panel array is behind him.

A Note from Darrin Magee, the New Director of IES

I'm a scholar of China's electrical system, with a particular interest in environmental and social impacts of large-scale hydropower, as well as the challenges and potential of renewables integration. I am thrilled to take on the directorship of the Institute for Energy Studies, where I look forward to helping prepare students for leadership roles in the energy transition.

Prior to joining Western, I taught courses on energy, garbage, and industrial impacts in East Asia as a professor of environmental studies at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. I also led study abroad programs in Australia, China, and Mongolia.

I completed my BS and BA in mathematics and French at Louisiana State University, along with my MA and PhD in China Studies and Geography at the University of Washington.
