Rather than research and evaluation being solely conducted for research’s sake, a people-centered evaluation framework centers the people, their context, culture, needs, and assets rather than focusing on the intervention, strategies, and initiatives. This talk presents some of the considerations of a people-centered framework such as authentic community engagement, the reframing of validity, and what’s considered rigorous when working directly with people. The presenter also introduces a new term based on community involvement. The presentation seeks to spur discussion on a framework that challenges how we think about and do research.

Katrina Bledsoe, PhD, Speaker
Principal Associate, Global Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion
Katrina L. Bledsoe is a trained evaluator, mixed methodologist, and social psychologist with evaluation experience in both US and international settings. She is currently Principal of Global Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion with the Chief Global Equity Office at Abt Associates where she serves as a thought leader within and outside of the organization as it pertains to research and evaluation. She also serves as an advisor with Strategic Learning Partners for Innovation (SLP4i), and is the Board Chairperson of Efficacy Methodology, an international research thinktank in Kampala, Uganda. Her areas of focus include culturally responsive, and equity-focused research and evaluation approaches, theory-driven evaluation, equity, cultural contexts, and organizational learning.
