With over 400 miles of marine shoreline located in the heart of the Salish Sea, nearshore habitats in the San Juan Archipelago play a key role in local and regional marine ecosystem recovery. Learn more about collaborative shoreline research, protection, and restoration efforts in the islands, including successes, challenges, and opportunities for the future.

The Environmental Speaker Series is free and open to the public. Talks are held each Thursday at 4:30pm in Academic Instructional Center West, room 204. Join us at WWU or online on Zoom!

Tina Whitman, Science Director at Friends of the San Juans

Tina is staff scientist for Friends of the San Juans where she has led shoreline research, restoration and protection programs since 2002. Tina received a Master of Science from the University of Oregon and has over 30 years’ experience in coastal and place-based conservation in the northeast and the northwest. Tina lives on Orcas Island with her family and is happiest on a beach, for work or play.
